Studies in 1 & 2 SamuelHope for Hard Times

Most of us are no strangers to hard times. But why do some people thrive and overcome, while others wither when times get tough? Looking at 1 & 2 Samuel, this 85-page pdf resource uncovers the secrets that empowered David to emerge from the crucible of trouble to become of the greatest leaders of all time. Do you want to change your world? Plant the seeds of greatness during times of trouble.

David amazes me. Nearly every trouble we could experience, he did experience. He was hated by his brothers, betrayed by friend and family. His employer rewarded his loyalty by taking out a contract on his life. His wife was stolen from him. He watched three of his sons die. He was lied about, and his followers revolted. At one point his closest friends were ready to stone him to death. Yet, any way you slice him, he bleeds worship. By looking at the life of David, you begin to get an inkling what God intends to do in your own life; how he takes your troubles and your mistakes and turns them around into good, and, in the process, creates something beautiful with your life.

What to do with problems you cannot solve? How do you move forward when you don't know what to do? When your life doesn't make sense, what do you do? How does God work with our limitations? How do the weak and “insignificant” manage to make a difference? What is true greatness? Why do some people hear from God and others don't? What happens to all our unanswered prayers and unfulfilled dreams?

I wrote these observations over a period of five years starting in 2002, during one of the most difficult seasons of my life. During this time, three businesses failed leaving our family bankrupt. Someone very dear to me was raped, more than once. I was slandered; someone even published a book with a chapter denouncing my wife and me. We faced cancer in our family. The list goes on, but you get the idea.

In the process of living through hard times, the Lord again and again brought me back to David and the secrets of greatness wrapped up in his life.
